If you have not yet heard of Jorja Smith you need to get your head out of the sand! This soulful songstress is making waves in the UK. You can hear her soothing voice on Carry Me Home which is taken from her new EP Project 11. Carry Me Home is a soulful jazz song about waiting for her saviour to help her. Her easy to listen to riffs feature throughout the track along-side the silky smooth voice of the one and only Maverick Sabre. Their voices work magically together, paired with the lazy feel of the song this is the perfect song to take you away for a moment.
Jorja hails from the Midlands in Walsall (near my home town #proud), what a soulful vocal talent. Taking inspiration from the late Amy Winehouse which you can definitely hear in Something in The Way. She also has that effortless ability to sing you into another world like Corinne-Bailey Rae where you get lost in her soothing melodies. She says her influences range from Dizzee Rascal to 17th century composer Henry Purcell which can be heard on her track Blue Lights and A Prince. Her velvety tones make you want to sit back in your comfy chair with a drink (please drink responsibly, of course) and appreciate.
At just 18 years old, Jorja is making big waves in the music world, fast gaining respect from all over the Internet. She debuted last year (2016) with “Blue Lights” sampling Dizzee Rascal’s “Sirens” which is always welcomed and special. She is also named on the long list of BBC Music Sound of 2017. They see big things for her and I can only agree.
I can see a massive 2017 for her, I am sure she will be topping the charts in no time. There are some amazing things coming out of the UK right WOW! I’m sure this is just the tip of the iceberg of what’s to come. Can’t wait!!
