If you were wondering why your internet connection was slow on Saturday 18th March, well you can blame Drake (30 year old from Toronto Canada). He broke the Internet by releasing his More Life playlist.
Drake released More Life as a playlist rather then an album as its a collection of work rather then a coherent album. After listening to More Life I think it feels more like a album but that’s down to personal opinion. What further more makes this body of work interesting for me, it features some great British talent. Jorja Smith, Sampha, Skepta and Giggs. Alongside some others features from Kanye West, Travis Scott, 2 Chainz, Young Thug & Black Coffee.
I’ve even heard that in the USA people have been Googling “what is a Giggs?” And “what is a wasteman?” Being from the UK, hearing this is so funny but I suppose it might be confusing also. There is a lot of UK street slang used on this playlist and a lot of it coming from Drake himself which would definitely would make people think ‘what is he talking about?’. I think its really clever that he uses UK street slang as it gives exposure to the artists and connecting them with different audiences from around the world. Drake is being a linked to the UK more and more in the last 3 years, from festival appearances to UK talent now being featured on More Life.
Upcoming and firmly staking her place is the UK music scene, Jorja Smith features on Get To Together a upbeat soulful housey track which I have played and ear marked to be a hit. Jorja worked with Drake and in return takes him to her local CO-OP supermarket in her home town of Walsall. This is hilarious as there is photo on Internet to prove it. Talk about best day at work EVER!
KMT features Giggs (UK grime artist) is set to blow up the clubs here. That track is being played a lot already on radio shows and the album… sorry playlist hasn’t even been out 100 hours yet!!!
Drake first came on the scene 2006 with early mixtapes then in 2009 releasing the landmark mixtape So Far Gone. He raps he sings and has some great beats on it too. If you haven’t heard it go check it out. I think it’s still some of his strongest work. He has gone from there to the global superstar he is now. To mention a couple of his many hits One Dance features Kyla (UK artist) & Too Good were two massive hits last year and he is set to bring us more, I’m sure.
More Life will definitely grow on you, Drake has this work flow of constantly delivering hits. This playlist will give you a bit of everything, has some Hip Hop, R&B to house/soulful house and grime. There is some club bangers in here and I’m sure I’ll playing this stuff out in the clubs for a long while to come. I still till this day get requests for a lot of his old stuff. I’m not sure I like the entire playlist but what I do like, I’ll have on repeat. Go have listen.
