Kat Von D Ultra Ink Eyeliner in stores now!

Today is an exciting day as Kat Von Ds Ultra Ink Eyeliner launches at Sephora Middle East! The new and improved product is totally vegan and the tip and formula have been improved.

Ultra Ink Liner joins Kat Von D Beauty’s coveted eyeliner offerings as the first liquid with a flexible felt tip allowing for guided, controlled application.

The 100% vegan, highly pigmented formula provides intense black payoff – even over your brightest eyeshadows – without fading. Waterproof, smudge proof and super long wear, this liquid liner will never smear or transfer.

I wear liquid liner almost every day so for me to find a formula that I love is amazing! I particularly like that if I want to do my eyeliner after applying eyeshadow it just glides on with no fuss!

Its priced at 100AED and now available to buy on http://www.sephora.ae

El Sur Siesta Brunch

El Sur is a Spanish Restaurant located in The Westin Mina Seyahi. They have a traditional Spanish menu in a contemporary venue overlooking the stunning Arabian Gulf. The newly launched brunch is priced at just 265AED including a set menu and unlimited house beverages and sangria.

To Start…

We were served a delicious array of authentic Spanish Tapas dishes which included Padron peppers with bread, Croquettes, Cold cuts and Patatas Bravas. Everything was delicious and I love the Tapas sharing style, the four of us devoured this course. The peppers were salty and moorish paired with the tomato sauce and bread. The Croquettes were crispy and had a delicious bite to them as they oozed with a cheesy filling. The potatoes were really cute, tiny whole potatoes seasoned and finished with a tangy relish.

The Main Event

You get a choice of vegetarian, seafood or chicken Paella and we opted for chicken. It was served in the huge plate in which it was cooked and the chef brought it out and mixed it all up for us after scorching the rosemary with a blow torch! The Paella was fine, we all enjoyed but it could have had a better depth of flavour if it had been cooked in a richer broth. We enjoyed the Tapas so much that by the time the Paella came we were quite satisfied already!

To Finish…

We were served Cheesecake with Cinnamon Ice cream and Santiago Cake. Cheesecake is usually one of my favourite desserts but I skipped on the cheesecake for the deliciously fluffy Santiago cake. It was dusted with icing sugar and served with vanilla ice cream which accompanied it perfectly. It was the perfect ending to a great meal! The service was exceptional throughout the meal with very attentive waiters. If your looking for a relaxed affordable brunch with great food in a laid back atmosphere, El Sur Siesta brunch is a great choice!

Why You Should Visit Costa Rica

Zohra Bandali and Pedro Beirute

I was lucky enough to grab a coffee with Pedro Beirute, the head of the Chamber of Commerce in Costa Rica. He was recently in Dubai for Gulfood and I was astounded to learn how eco-forward Costa Rica is! In fact, it is set to be the first Carbon Neutral country in the world and being such a tiny country which holds 6% of the worlds biodiversity, has certainly boosted it higher on my bucket list!

What are the main reasons that would draw someone to visit Costa Rica?

Costa Rica is a very safe place, it is also a role model to the world in terms of sustainability. We have a strategy to have sustainability as part of our core values. 100% of our electricity comes from renewable sources, half of our land is protected and we aim to become the first carbon neutral country in the world. We have 6% of the earths biodiversity so it’s a unique experience for anyone going to Costa Rica. It is a safe place as well as a place that is thinking about the future in terms of protecting the environment. We have beaches, rivers, volcanoes and a lot of attractive nature related attractions. Costa Rica is positioned as an eco-tourism destination and people from Costa Rica are highly educated which adds to tourists experience. Costa Rica rank number one in the Happy Planet Index meaning that we are the happiest country on earth and also we have people that are friendly and happy to host people from abroad

You were here for Gulfood, what was your involvement in the exhibition?

We came for Gulfood with some Costa Rican companies offering heart palms, pineapple, juices, coffee, cocoa, chocolates, dried food, cocktail mixes. These are an example of our offerings, Costa Rica is in the Tropics with Volcnic soil so it facilitates the production of fresh foods and vegetables. There is a large variety of things that our soil gives us in combination with our tropical weather which is 25 degrees all year round.

When I travel I love to eat! Especially trying new cuisines and foods that locals eat, what is a typical dish in Costa Rica?

Our typical food consists of fresh foods grown there, typically includes root vegetables such as yuca which can be fried, mashed, pureed, boiled or served with ceviche. Lately there has been a large production of organic products which also fits pretty well with our sustainability values. One way of protecting the environment is not Using chemicals, we have a limited use of fertilizers and chemicals, so everything is linked. The products we export are limited as we are a small country but they are top quality and therefore not cheap. Costa Rica accounts for 2% of the global coffee, we have won many awards but quantities are limited and quality is high therefore the cost is more as well.

Some countries that have such limited production ends up exporting all the good stuff and nothing is left for locals, how do you control this?

We have a lot of small businesses and they simply don’t have the money or know-how to export to Dubai for example so all their products are sold locally. We have suppliers we work with which are farmed for export and locals get produce from smaller farms. We have a mantra to do business with purpose which we call the three p’s – people, profit and  planet. The way we support companies is by conveying that they need to focus on a business with purpose. We are a middle income company so there is demand for good quality products so we retain these. Tourists are  also an incentive for producers to keep their products in Costa Rica.

Where can we buy Costa Rican products in the UAE?

We were present at Gulfood because we want to bring more products to the UAE market, most of our products go to the US and Europe, this region has a very small volume. We are in the niche industry with high quality, boutique, premium products therefore we don’t have the volume to fulfil global demand. Our strategy has been to fulfil the orders in the US and Europe, we want to now enter the UAE market. You can find coffee, bananas and heart palms here but we want to provide more products and export them directly rather than going through Europe. This will make it cheaper and faster to get products here.

Find out in my video how Costa Ricans stay the happiest country in the world and what you should do when visiting Costa Rica!

Oyl’e London

Oyl’e London is an innovative brand in the market of aromatherapy jewellery. They have a range of luxury bracelets and necklaces which contain open lockets where you can put a wool diffusing bead containing drops of essential oils. Oyl’e also has a range of seven top grade essential oils which each hold different properties.

Aromatherapy is a holistic healing treatment that uses natural plant extracts to promote health and well-being. Sometimes it’s called essential oil therapy. It uses aromatic essential oils medicinally to improve the health of the mind, body and spirit. It enhances both physical and emotional health. Each essential oil has a host of benefits that have been lost in translation over time. Oyl’e aims to bring to surface the therapeutic and uplifting benefits of this therapy which is much needed in our daily lives. The great thing about Oyl’e is that this beautiful jewellery is functional, giving the wearer the effects of aromatherapy on the go.

I love my rose gold oyl’e bracelet. I have worn it every day since I got it and have definitely felt the effects of the oils I have tried and tested. I particularly like the dusk oil which helps you sleep better. The oils can also be used in diffusers or topically when diluted with a carrier oil such as coconut oil. The design of the jewellery is dainty while the cage pendant makes a statement. It has a easily adjustable chain so you can slip it on and off if you don’t want to fiddle with the clasp! It is a great christmas gift idea and you can purchase it via their website!

Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Palette

Tarte tartelette palette

This sleek tartelette palette has become a daily staple for me. The natural hues are perfect for daytime wear and the matte finish is great for setting those lids in the humidity. The tartelette palette contains 12 full size shadows in all matte shades.

The skin-perfecting Amazonian clay-infused formula naturally balances and nourishes skin on the lids, while keeping oil at bay so the powerful pigment won’t budge, back down or fade – just like a tartelette! Sleek, lightweight palette features a chic tarte signature and portable design for on-the-go glamour anytime, anywhere.

The nourishing clay hydrates skin naturally to restore moisture, removes surface oil to mattify skin, and improves the appearance of skin clarity and skin texture. For better, longer, truer wear. My only gripe is that the matte texture makes it harder to blend however its worth the effort!

Try Tarte’s Amazonian Clay range of makeup to achieve and maintain healthy-looking and natural skin available at Sephora!

Medina Candle Massage, Tips and Toes

I tried the new Medina Candle Massage available at the Al Barsha brsnch of Tips & Toes. I have only ever been to their smaller branches and was surprised that they have such a huge one in Barsha which includes a nail studio, hair and waxing salon as well as a spa!

The spa was beautiful, it was candle lit and had a lovely relaxation area for before and after treatments. The therapist came to explain what the treatment entails and find out what pressure massage I wanted.

The candle was lit which would be used for the treatment. It was made with shea butter and oudh and smelt delicious. As the candle burned the butter melted which she poured and massaged into my skin. It was not hot like a normal candle, just warm and the oudh aroma was beautiful.

The massage was really relaxing and included the back, legs and feet and the cost is 266 AED including tax. I would definitely recommend it and would go back, it was a really luxurious treatment and I felt like a goddess being bathed in oudh oil 😜

This serene new treatment aims to relax the mind & body with the use of warm candle oils for the ultimate aromatherapy experience and is available only at the Barsha branch of Tips & Toes.

Summer Skincare Essentials

The change of season really brings a change in my skin and therefore I switch up my skincare regime for the Summer to aspire to get that perfect Summer Glow and I wanted to share my Summer Skincare Essentials with you!

My skin gets more oilier and also more dehydrated – yes, that is possible! Don’t think that because your skin is oily it has enough water, in fact when your skin is dehydrated, often you will produce MORE oil to compensate for the dryness so essential number 1 is a good moisturiser!

Dr Jart + Water Fuse Moisturiser

Dr Jart + Water Fuse Moisturiser

I am a huge fan of Gel Moisturisers as I have quite oily skin, they are light and absorb well into my skin while letting it breathe. Dr Jart’s Water Fuse line is amazing for quenching the thirst of your skin. Here is a video on how Dr Jart’s Water Fuse line works:

I do love this product but I found Sephora’s Instant Water Moisture Gel to be a great dupe. GLAMGLOW’s Hydrated Water Burst Moisturiser is another good option. The innovative sea blue formula bursts into thirst quenching water droplets upon contact before fully absorbing into the skin for a glow you can see and feelI would not get through the Summer without one of these moisturisers!

Clinique Pep Start

Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream

I am on my 3rd Tube of this hydrating goodness. The skin around your eyes is the most sensitive, its thinner and therefore ages first and shows the first signs of dehydration and aging. A little massage of this product every morning will have your undereyes looking fresh!

Basking and Masking

GLAMGLOW Gravity Mud Mask

I believe in Basking and Masking! If your gonna sunbathe, make sure you get that extra hydration in. I also love a good exfoliating mask before I sunbathe to keep the tan on my face nice and even. I love Sephora’s range of masks, the eye and lip ones are great for packing in that extra hydration where it is most needed. I use these while doing an all over face mask, my favourite this summer is GLAMGLOW’s Gravity Mud which is a Silver Peel Off Mask. It gets rid of all my extra oil while removing all my dead skin cells so the surface of my skin is nice and smooth. I find it very gentle and use it twice a week.

Hand Cream

L'occitane Amande Hand Cream

Keep those hands nice and soft with a super moisturising hand cream or balm. I love  L’occitane’s almond range, I travel with all of it! The Oil is so versatile and the hand balm is super nourishing and smells divine! Sephoras Almond hand balm is also super nourishing for a smaller budger.

Casper and Gambinis, Dubai, Food Review

Casper and Gambinis is situated downtown by South Ridge park and boasts amazing views of the Burj Khalifa. If only our Summer wasn’t so scorching hot it would have been ideal to sit outside however the interiors are lovely too!

I assumed from the name that Casper and Gambinis was Italian but this Lebanese owned chain boasts an international menu. They serve burgers, sushi, pizza, pasta, grilled food and even a few indian inspired dishes.

Starters

We ordered the Asian Sesame Chicken Salad, Heritage Goat Cheese Salad, Smoked Salmon and Truffle Burgers to start. The Asian Sesame Chicken salad was my favourite, this dish is laced with layers of flavour and topped with wanton crisps and peanuts for an extra crunch. It was sweet, spicy, tangy and had a wonderful depth of flavour. The Smoked Salmon was average but the Goats Cheese Salad was delicious too and one I would definitely order again. Unfortunately the Truffle Burgers were a fail for me, I could not taste the truffle, the patty was dry and the diced mushrooms didn’t work for me.

Mains

Unfortunately the house specials such as the Filet Steak and Caspers Chicken Escalope were not available as they only serve a limited quantity for iftar which was disappinting. Its probably wise to call ahead and order before going to try these. We had the Penne Arabiatta, Prime Angus Steak and Chicken Under A Brick. The Chicken Under a brick was my favourite main, tender, succulent and full of flavour, it was a nicely composed dish. The others were just ok and I wouldnt order them again.

Dessert

For dessert we tried the Date and Caramel Pudding and the Pain Perdu. Both were yummy! The Pain Perdu had lots of flavour, the cinnamon and cream combo was yummy. The date pudding was sweet and sticky and it could have done with a tad more sauce to make it gooey in the middle but the flavour was perfect.

Casper and Gambinis

All in all it was a good meal and the salads were definitely worth going back for!

Iftar at Weslodge Saloon Dubai

We were lucky enough to preview Weslodge Saloon’s delicious iftar menu and it was worth writing home about! This North American venue has a great iftar menu for the meat-lovers out there!

20180425_194440-01832733735.jpeg

Weslodge Saloon is usually a North America style party destination so I was not expecting a very traditional iftar, therefore when I received a lentil soup with a side of hummus, I was pleasantly surprised! The soup was actually gigantic and though it was delicious, after glancing at the rather hearty menu I stopped myself when I reached a quarter of the way through.

I was saving myself for the ribs, chicken and salad that were yet to come for starters! The honey drizzled chicken is pretty well known and it didn’t disappoint. Super crunchy and salty with a sticky coating of honey, it won me over and the lamb ribs and salad were pretty good too. I was quite happy with them all but again had a small taster of each as mains included steak, fish and more ribs!

20180425_202631-011573842772.jpeg

The steak was quite disappointing, undercooked for medium and the lemony sauce just didn’t work for me but lets talk about those melt-in-your-mouth ribs! Now they were what you imagine when you picture a great North American Diner, they could have added a barbecue sauce on the side but they were slow-cooked to perfection and the meat fell off the bone. The fish was nice too, again everything was huge portions and I think it should be for a minimum of 4 people as 3 of us did not even get half way through any course. I hate to see wastage and especially in Ramadan so they should definitely start a fridge initiative for leftovers or just downsize.

I loved that they brought round the hummus and dates first as many places make you wait until they serve starters and this would keep you going till then. With the best yet to come, we were served Weslodge’s most requested double down hazelnut brownie or the scrumptious maple brulee; a with blueberry sorbet coupled with maple tossed blueberries – both were a delicious end to a great meal! I was happy overall and would definitely recommend this to someone looking for an indulgent iftar.
