Last week I managed to get water in my phone and the screen eventually faded to black 😦 I literally replaced my screen two weeks ago in London because it had smashed and it cost me £140 (650AED)! I wanted to do it on the cheap as I will be getting a new phone soon I just needed to access the data on it so I called some of those little electronic shops in Bur Dubai for a screen quotation and they all said it would be around 650AED which is the same price. I don’t drive so by the time I get a taxi there and back it will cost me 750/800.
I Googled places nearby and found that there is this amazing repair service called Geeks!! They collect your device, fix it in 1-2 working days and bring it back. To top it all off the screens are genuine and come with a 2 year warranty (which you can never guarantee in those little shops in Bur Dubai). They quoted 680 so it was a bit more but well worth it!
I got my phone back and it was fine but after a few days it started flashing and then it would go black…uh oh!! I called the Geeks to tell them and they picked it up straight away and replaced it again and got it back to me within a day!
They have such a fast and reliable service which is so convenient as you literally don’t have to leave your house, I highly recommend them 🙂
I am one of those naughty people who regularly skips breakfast but how could I resist the opportunity to sample fumes new breakfast menu!? I went to the branch in Pier 7 which overlooks the stunning Marina. I absolutely love the decor in there, it’s simple with a quirky retro twist. I particularly loved the light feature made from recycled wine bottles!
The breakfast menu is great, there is an array of hot breakfasts and you can also opt for something lighter such as muesli with yoghurt and fruit and various different bakery items. I went for the salmon with eggs and eggs which is scrambled eggs on toast with salmon topped with caviar. It also had an avocado spread on the toast which was delicious, I would definitely order it again.
I also had a taste of the shakshouka which is eggs baked in a tomato sauce served with toast. I found the tomato sauce to be a little overwhelming but it is a traditional Arabic breakfast dish and an acquired taste that many would probably enjoy.
We wanted a sweet ending so we had waffles with berries and chantilly cream, they were deliciously fluffy and the dish had the perfect balance of sweet and sour.
I will certainly be back at fume to satisfy my breakfast cravings, the ambience is great, the servers are friendly and attentive and the food is yummy!

This post is a little over due but better late then never I always say! When I lived in London I used to attend the Notting Hill Carnival almost every year as a teen. This year the Notting Hill Carnival celebrated its 50th year! It’s the biggest street festival in Europe celebrating Caribbean cultures and traditions on the August bank holiday weekend.
This feast of colour and soca rhythms began in the early 19th century when the abolition of slavery was celebrated in Trinidad. I wandered the colourful streets, every few metres the music changed and the speakers are so loud on each float that it drowns out any nearby music while you are next to it. The costumes are vibrant and beautiful and the smell of jerk chicken sizzling on the barbecues lining the streets is mouth-watering. The wide variety of Caribbean dishes makes the carnival a foodies paradise, it is definitely worth checking out the traditional street food. Check out my Carnival Gallery:
I was Instagramming the other day and I came across a beautiful building which was geotagged in London and then I realised it was St. Pauls Cathedral. Being a Londoner its kind of shocking that I have never been, pictures are not allowed inside the building which is why I didn’t recognise it but then I saw a few more so I wondered why so many people had pics inside!
I went on their website to discover they were doing something called “St. Pauls Lates” where photographers were welcome between 6.00-8.30 on the 2nd and 3rd of September to pay £10 admission to see the Cathedral and Crypt and take some snaps (its usually £18) I read this at 5pm on the last day of it and quickly grabbed my cam and jumped on the underground! When I got there the queue was unbelievable…around the block! I saw another entrance on the other side so I went to ask and they let me in! YAAAY! Its so beautiful, here are a few of my snaps:
In the spirit of giving back this Ramadan, PizzaExpress has launched their ‘Golden Ticket’ campaign, where every pizza delivery box is accompanied by a gold, silver, bronze or white ticket to reveal prizes such as a free brunch for four people, your height in pizza or an iPhone 6s.
The first ‘Golden Ticket’ winner, Laura Chamberlain, 40, a British marketing expert living in Dubai, was announced by PizzaExpress yesterday. Winning the top prize from the Jumeirah branch following a delivery order for the classic ‘Margherita Romana’, Chamberlain was ecstatic to see she was the first of the possible two winners to pick up 10,000 AED in holiday vouchers.
“I just couldn’t believe it; this is the biggest prize I have ever won! It’s mine and my husband’s 12-year anniversary so an Eid trip is definitely on the cards and then we are going to use the rest for a trip to South Africa’: – said Chamberlain, who collected the prize at the branch yesterday.
Well folks, there are two more Golden Tickets left to be won, one for a year’s supply of pizza and the other is for the second 10,000 AED holiday voucher. The campaign will run until the end of Ramadan and deliveries are available in all areas of Dubai so get ordering!

The pop-up restaurant is called #thisisnotabuffet which already prepares you for a culinary experience. Our booking was for 6.45 and we made it in good time however it was not easy to find the pop-up venue. There were no signs but a security guard directed us to warehouse 90 which is by the yard.
I loved the venue, as expected in Al Serkal, they had transformed a warehouse into a restaurant and they had done a good job. The majority of the furnishings were recycled from the tables to the menus and for decoration they just had pieces of paper hanging from the ceiling but it all worked and it was pretty chic.
I was fasting so they took my order first and my appetizer arrived just before iftar which is when they took the rest of the groups order (there were 10 of us). My 3 courses came out seamlessly however the rest of the group had major issues…some had finished mains while others had not even had starters and it was all a bit of a mess. I thought my second course would sync with everyone else’s but we all ended up eating as our food came and half the group had not even had their mains by 9pm (2 hours later).
On the plus side the food was unbelievable, it was really delicious, small plates made up of elements that were magical together. I had the lobster tacos which were to die for! For mains I had the lamb which was cooked to perfection with a beautiful pink like through the middle and a delicious herb and pistachio crust. Then I finished with the kheer cheesecake which was very interesting, it came with a strong saffron sauce which was a little overwhelming but I loved all the other elements on the plate, a crumble, a dark chocolate truffle, edible flowers amongst other things.
Due to the time delays we got quite a few free plates to sample and the crab was divine, I would definitely order it next time…yes I am actually still quite happy to go back despite the service, they were very apologetic but mainly because the food was off the chain! It was only the second day of the pop-up so it must be really difficult to get into the flow of things with such a sophisticated menu. You could choose either 2 course for 90, 5 courses for 210 or a range of small plates which were about 40dhs each (way better value) but I think these caused havoc in the kitchen.
I loved the vibe, we sat on a taller table with stools which got uncomfortable after the first course but the majority were low tables which I would request in future. I think its a great concept and they had a live Oud player which was nice. They have themed nights so Saturday they have a boardgame space, Sunday is games night, Monday is trivia night, Tuesday is live music and Wednesday is gallery tours from 8.30pm. 5% of all proceeds go to charity and I would highly recommend an iftar at #thisisnotabuffet. You can find plenty of parking inside Al Serkal Avenue and remember to book in advance.
Zizzle went down to the Al Maeda restaurant at DoubleTree by Hilton Dubai to try the delicious Iftar Buffet.
The dishes were traditionally inspired and included an array of the most delectable North African and Levant dishes. We were spoilt for choice with Chef Lawrence crafting over 20 dishes to choose from. The Emirati Artist Ahmed Al Muhairi is showcasing his work throughout the month which also adds to the authentic cultural and traditional experience of this iftar. For every 100dhs spent you will be entered into a draw to win a Mussandam Dhow Cruise for two.
A Ramadan room package is available for travellers planning to visit Dubai during Ramadan. Prices for a one bedroom suite inclusive of Iftar and Sohour start at AED440 per person (rates are subject to 10% tourism fee, 10% service charge and AED15 tourism dirham per bedroom per night) and can be booked at DoubleTree by Hilton Dubai – Jumeirah Beach website.
Al Maeda restaurant will be offering Iftar buffet and Sohour every day during the month of Ramadan with live cooking station, live entertainment during Iftar, boarding games available upon request, TV screens and shisha offered in the terrace. The iftar buffet will be served every day from sunset to 9:00pm, Sohour will be available from 9:00pm to 2:00am. It is inclusive of Ramadan drinks AED 139. Sohour A-la-carte menu offers Standard Platter AED 69 and Premium Platter AED 89.
A special rate of AED119 will be offered to guests booking before 6th of May and to all guest dining during the first week of Ramadan. Special Group Iftars rates are also available.
Often buffets lack quality but the dishes were well seasoned and cooked to perfection with a great selection. You definitely need more then one visit to sample all the dishes, the ambience was spot on and we will definitely be going back for more!
