Colab Dry Shampoo

COLAB Extreme Collection.jpgStylists have been telling us for years that if we wash our hair less often, then it’ll be softer, shinier, and way healthier. Sounds good to us, especially since it saves us major minutes in the morning. That said, we still need to keep our hair fresh between washes and this is where Colab Dry Shampoo comes in. But this miracle product only performs miracles when it is used properly.

Make the most of this hair-care staple with these useful tips and really get the most out of your Dry Shampoo:

  1. Try not to spray too close to your scalp. Always spritz your dry shampoo about 10 inches away from your roots to avoid any excess residue.
  2. Don’t get too spray happy. Use your dry shampoo on the roots only as this is where your hair gets greasy. Spraying on the lengths and ends will make hair stiff and lacklustre.
  3. Massage, massage, massage! Don’t just spray on and go. Allow the product to sit for a few minutes to absorb any oil and then work into the roots using fingertips.
  4. Using too much product is a big no-no and can make your hair actually appear dull and discoloured. It is always better to use a little and add more if you feel your hair is still too greasy. If you do, however put on a bit much, simply blast with a hairdryer that will help even it out.
  5. As easy as it can be to do, try not to rely too much on your Dry Shampoo and only use once or twice between washes to let your follicles and scalp breathe.
  6. Try applying dry shampoo before you go to bed. This gives plenty of time to soak in and you’ll wake with fresh looking strands in the morning.

COLAB™ Dry Shampoos come in five captivating scents. From the classic, heritage notes of London, the fresh and fruity scents of New York, to the floral, feminine notes of Paris, you can embrace head-turning, iconic city style wherever you are.

Extreme Volume Dry Shampoo is available in two sizes, a 200ml spray is AED45 and a super travel-friendly option is the 50ml priced at AED 26.

The Konjac Sponge

I had no idea about the Konjac plant until I found The Konjac Sponge and I found it fascinating so I thought I would share a little info with you guys about it.

Firstly, what is the Konjac plant?

The Konjac plant is native to Asian countries including South Korea, Japan and China. Many people have compared it to a yam in terms of its looks and texture and it is incredibly versatile. With a history of over 1,500 years dating back to the sixth century in Japan when it was used as a medicinal food, it’s clear that it’s held its own over the years.

What makes the Konjac plant so special?

Apart from being 100% sustainable, the plant is rich in vitamins (not to show off, but a casual abundance of vitamin A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, D, E) and lots of essential protein.  It is also jam packed with natural minerals such as zinc, copper, magnesium and iron.

Konjac is made up of almost 90% water so it doesn’t hurt to injest some when you need a dose of hydration.

How can Konjac be used to boost your health?

Konjac is a fan with those keeping an eye on their weight as a small portion will make you feel full very quickly. Glucomannan (a sugar made from the root of the Konjac plant) will increase up to a whopping 200 times of its original volume after absorption. Konjac also balances salinity, cleans the stomach and intestine and removes toxins from the body.

Diabetics in particular can benefit from Konjac as glucomannan has fantastic supporting effects such as lowering blood sugar and increasing insulin in the blood.

How can you bring Konjac into your beauty regime?

Prepare yourself for one little sponge that will change the way you look at cleansing your skin in the most natural and gentle way possible.

Each of these special hand made sponges are perfect for not only delivering a really deep skin clean but also gives cell regeneration a kick start, meaning skin looks radiant and free from dead skin cells.

Given that Konjac is naturally alkaline, it is super kind to even the most sensitive skin. Konjac sponges are free from chemicals, colouring and irritants and completely biodegradable meaning you can do your bit for the planet through your beauty routine. The sponges proudly carry the Leaping Bunny and Vegan Society symbol as part of the Konjac Sponge Company’s commitment to cruelty free skincare.

The Konjac Sponge Company is stocked at Wojooh stores in all major shopping malls, Holland and Barrett, The Nail Spa, Harvey Nichols and House of Fraser. Prices start at 75 dhs, visit www.facebook.com/thekonjacspongecompanymiddleeast to find out more.

Once You Go Black…

20160628_183508

I went to the Belle Femme salon in JBR, they have a very professional service and they use my favourite L’oreal products so I always feel confident putting my hair in their hands. The colourist Najat had a look at my hair and told me it would be almost impossible to lift it to the previous ash blonde and she did a colour test…after the bleach my hair had become weaker so we decided to just get it to a nice brown with some highlights.

Najat was amazing, a lot of colourists would just bleach it regardless of the condition and that is one of the things I love about Belle Femme! She took 6 hours to do my hair because she lightened it gradually 3 times. A lot of places just want clients in and out for a fast turnaround but she took the time to ensure she did my hair the best possible way. I was really happy with my hair and highly recommend Najat for a colour, Belle Femme have never disappointed me.

This years hair trends are a toned down version of last year, hair contouring with very natural highlights and gradual ombres with less of a contrast. L’oreals pro fibre treatment is great if your lightening your hair to strengthen it again and get it in good condition.

Summer Tips:

  • I try to put coconut oil in my hair once a week overnight.
  • Avoid ammonia in hair dye when colouring your hair, the new inoa colour from L’oreal is a great alternative.
  • I have a habit of washing my hair daily which is actually really bad for your hair because it strips it of natural oils, in summer I try to do it once every couple of days instead and use heat protecting spray.
  • When I’m going to the beach I leave my conditioner in, its great if you have naturally dry hair because when the salt gets in your hair you get beachy waves instead of a hot frizzy mess.

Olay Regenerist Review

Olay Regenerist cream 1.jpg

Skincare is such an essential part of our daily routine and prevention is always better then cure which is why I started using anti-ageing products in my 20’s. I never recommend skincare until it is tried and tested for a substantial amount of time. I have been using the micro-sculpting cream for 3 months and I physically see a difference in my skin. I saw my mum after a few months and she asked if I had used collagen or botox (which I never have) but I actually noticed it instantly too and overtime there has been a visible difference. I noticed it most on my forehead which is the only place where I had a feint line previously but now it has gone!!

How?

Olay Regenerist’s upgraded formula  helps fight the look of skin fatigue, enhance skin’s responsiveness to anti-aging ingredients, and energize skin’s appearance for visibly firmer, younger looking skin that’s full of energy

Results:

I attended the Olay masterclass in March where they demonstrated how to massage cream into the skin and under cheekbones and areas you wish to sculpt and I have been doing that since and I really feel that it has made a difference. I never had wrinkles or anything like that but I just feel my skin is fuller, more awake and plumper and it has a really smooth feel. I have oily skin so to be honest I am not fond of the residue the cream leaves, you really do need to massage to get it all rubbed in but I guess that’s why I have done it so consistently. My skin instantly feels hydrated and plumped up making that little bit of shine worth it.

I definitely recommend this range, I bought it for my mum and she loved it too so its great for more mature skin as well.

Toms One for One

I had an eye-opening experience at the Tom’s store in Dubai Mall. I always knew that Toms were comfy and cute but I had no idea about One for One. Did you know that for every purchase of Toms shoes you make, a child in South or Central America receives a pair of shoes.

Having lived in Peru the video of the Peruvian children receiving shoes from the Tom’s employees brought back warm memories. We often take the simplest things for granted, to us shoes are a commodity but in many parts of the world shoes are a luxury. Blake Mycoskie the founder of Toms had the fantastic idea, A simple idea that has grown into a global movement: TOMS Shoes has provided over 60 million pairs of shoes to children since 2006, TOMS Eyewear has restored sight to over 400,000 since 2011 and TOMS Roasting Company has helped provide over 335,000 weeks of safe water since launching in 2014. In 2015, TOMS Bag Collection was founded with the mission to help provide training for skilled birth attendants and distribute birth kits containing items that help a woman safely deliver her baby. As of 2016, TOMS has supported safe birth services for over 25,000 mothers.

So next time you make a Tom’s purchase, you should be aware that your money is helping someone in need 🙂 I love my customised Toms, they painted Llamas on them for me as a little symbol of Peru ❤

Hydrafacial Review in Dubai

Last week I tried the HydraFacial at the NStyle Salon in Mall of the Emirates. I have never had a facial that I raved about because they generally make your skin worse and then better and I have never had one where I really saw or felt a huge difference. The HydraFacial was hands-down the best facial I have ever had!! I have been singing and dancing about it to my friends and family because my skin looks and feels amazing and actually apart from two red patches (just for an hour or two) where I had an extraction, the results were instant. The HydraFacial is a new treatment that has only been available since February 2016.

How?

The hydrafacial is a machine that has a device attached to the various product pumps inside. Based on your skin type, the correct product is selected and then the vacuum like pipe is pressed against your skin in small bursts. As the inner pipe sucks on your skin, the outer pipe squeezes water and minerals onto the skin and the sensation of the two combined is amazing. I really enjoyed it, even when she told me it would hurt as she is putting the suction up for a deeper clean, it still felt quite nice. The multi – step treatment cleanses, peels, exfoliates, and extracts while removing impurities and replenishing vital nutrients to skin.

She finished with a manual extraction which I always hate but I guess its worth it in the end, its so painful on the nose but its over in a few seconds. When she finished my skin literally felt as smooth as a babies bum, it felt so nice I couldn’t stop touching it. It has been a week and I can still feel the effects of it, my skin is really smooth, I sometimes get little bumps under the surface but I don’t have any at the moment and my skin feels hydrated and less oily around the t-zone.

Results

I will definitely be going back regularly for a HydraFacial, it is in the region of about 350dhs for 30 minutes and once every 4-6 weeks is regular enough. My complexion is brighter, smoother and hydrated well, this treatment comes with my highest recommendation. The HydraFacial is  proven to be particularly effective in targeting specific skin concerns like fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, and hyper-pigmentation. You can see a quick video of my treatment on my @zizzleblog Instagram account.
