I visited the Tribe Spa to have a Repechage four layer facial. I have wanted to try this facial since I heard about it years ago but of the many spas I have been to none offered it. The Tribe spa is located in Tribe Fitness and has 2 treatment rooms, it is small but sufficient and the staff are very warm and welcoming.
I was really looking forward to trying the four later facial which uses layers of fresh European seaweed which is supposed to rejuvenate, tone and firm the appearance of the skin. I was actually on the 2nd week of a detox when I went for this facial so my skin was in desperate need of extraction as I had a lot of toxins surfacing.
The therapist was lovely and before starting showed me each layer and explained what it would do so that I understood the treatment. I really appreciated this because sometimes I have been for treatments where I have no idea of the time scale or what exactly they are applying and then I have to ask questions instead of relaxing and enjoying the treatment.
Initially she cleaned my face and then began the extraction, obviously this is never pleasant as extractions are painful but she was as gentle as possible and I was glad to get it over with and begin the nice stuff!
She applied a cool C-Serum Seaweed Concentrate liquid to moisturise, soothe and tone the skin. It felt really nice and she left it for a couple of minutes to absorb into my skin. Then she applied a rich thermal mask which she massaged onto my skin. It contained hydrating seaweed cream and we waited till it dried. As it dried it tingled because it was a thermal mask and created heat, it was a little strange but not uncomfortable.
The third layer dries almost like another skin, it has a rubbery texture and becomes solid. The light green fresh seaweed mask is soothing and cooling to the skin. I could feel the heat underneath this layer from the thermal mask and it felt like it was getting hotter probably because it trapped the heat. It was definitely doing something! the 4th and final layer is the application of the seaweed mineral mask on the skin which is applied thickly and dries like clay. It does get a little itchy underneath but you just have to bear with it. When it dries she pulled the rubbery layer underneath from the edges to loosen the top layer which had moulded to my face. Then she lifted it and it comes off in one piece as a mould of your face which I thought was really cool! Unfortunately it was in pieces by the time I got it home but cool nonetheless.
She wiped my face clean and I looked in the mirror to find a much brighter, smoother complexion which was actually immediate. Usually you leave a facial quite red-faced but this was a welcome surprise. I touched my face and it really did feel good! Smooth and clean with tighter pores.
I would highly recommend having the Repechage facial at Tribe Spa in Dubai Marina! It was a great experience and I would definitely go back and do it again.
Last week I tried the HydraFacial at the NStyle Salon in Mall of the Emirates. I have never had a facial that I raved about because they generally make your skin worse and then better and I have never had one where I really saw or felt a huge difference. The HydraFacial was hands-down the best facial I have ever had!! I have been singing and dancing about it to my friends and family because my skin looks and feels amazing and actually apart from two red patches (just for an hour or two) where I had an extraction, the results were instant. The HydraFacial is a new treatment that has only been available since February 2016.
The hydrafacial is a machine that has a device attached to the various product pumps inside. Based on your skin type, the correct product is selected and then the vacuum like pipe is pressed against your skin in small bursts. As the inner pipe sucks on your skin, the outer pipe squeezes water and minerals onto the skin and the sensation of the two combined is amazing. I really enjoyed it, even when she told me it would hurt as she is putting the suction up for a deeper clean, it still felt quite nice. The multi – step treatment cleanses, peels, exfoliates, and extracts while removing impurities and replenishing vital nutrients to skin.
She finished with a manual extraction which I always hate but I guess its worth it in the end, its so painful on the nose but its over in a few seconds. When she finished my skin literally felt as smooth as a babies bum, it felt so nice I couldn’t stop touching it. It has been a week and I can still feel the effects of it, my skin is really smooth, I sometimes get little bumps under the surface but I don’t have any at the moment and my skin feels hydrated and less oily around the t-zone.
I will definitely be going back regularly for a HydraFacial, it is in the region of about 350dhs for 30 minutes and once every 4-6 weeks is regular enough. My complexion is brighter, smoother and hydrated well, this treatment comes with my highest recommendation. The HydraFacial is proven to be particularly effective in targeting specific skin concerns like fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, and hyper-pigmentation. You can see a quick video of my treatment on my @zizzleblog Instagram account.
My arms are covered in goosebumps as I type, this is probably one of the most disgusting treatments I have ever heard of. A salon in Tokyo has just launched an anti-aging treatment during which snails crawl over your face. Snail mucus (YUCK!!) contains hyularonic acid, proteins and antioxidants, all of which are beneficial to the skin.
The “snacial”, as I like to call it, costs in the region of $300! If you paid me $1000 I would NOT do this treatment, I would much rather age gracefully! The treatment is meant to enhance your natural glow, because the mucus helps skin retain moisture and soothes inflammation. The salon’s sales manager explains that it is effective in the recovery of skin cells, healing damaged skin and possibly even helping skin that has been damaged by UV-radiation.
The “Celebrity Escargot Course” (Snacials a way better name don’t you think?) is a 60-minute facial in which the esthetician cleans the client’s face, then places snails on their cheeks and forehead. It also includes facial massages and masks, as well as an electrical pulse machine. Would you dare to try it?
