What’s in a name? Everything…The suits worn in the series Suits make half the show, the other half is the man wearing the suit, Harvey Specter. From the moment I started watching, I knew those wide curved lapels had Tom Ford’s name written all over them. Harv (as I like to call him) takes power dressing to a different level, his look just screams “Bawss!”. His beautiful physique obviously contributes as Ford is notorious for that impeccable body skimming cut.
There are very few things more attractive than a man in an immaculate 3 piece, he opts for 2 buttons over the more conventional 3, razor sharp trousers with a flat front and a single pinched pleat is just the icing on the cake. Obviously it’s his swag too, the one liners, the fact that he’s the best at what he does and that he has those sentimental moments beneath his beautifully toned exterior.
The casino episode was my favourite, the only thing that can beat a perfect suit is a perfect tux. His diamond tipped bow-tie demanded attention and those details are what give him his edge. He always completes his suits with his trademark Windsor knot and his cutaway collars zone in on his perfectly centred tie dimple (and of course his face). You can tell the fabrics are Italian because of the quality, you never see the outline of his tie under his collar, when he’s not sporting Ford he’s in Canali, Brioni or Hugo Boss. He has definitely earned his style icon status!
I know he’s not real but I think I love him…can you tell? here’s some of my favourite pictures:
Probably one of the best events I’ve attended in ages, Fendi collaborated with Harpers Bazaar to dress some of Dubai’s most familiar socialites head to toe in Fendi for a shoot they celebrated at Sake No Hana. The Photographs were framed and placed around the aristocratic themed venue. It was a beautiful crowd with some of the Middle Easts biggest designers attending such as Rami Al Ali and the Golkar brothers of Emperor 1688.
Japanese bars are definitely big in Dubai at the moment, places like Zuma, Okku and Nobu are pulling in crowds and have been scooping awards for the best places to go. I have been wanting to have dinner at Sake No Hana for a while so was great to sample their delicious canapé’s, they were so beautifully created you felt bad eating them but they epitomised great Japanese food, simply cooked with fresh ingredients that complimented each other beautifully.
Nothing better then the combination of fashion, great food and music that had us dancing all night!
Magazines are generally printed to be read but Vogue is a visual feast. I can look at the pictures in Vogue for hours, the way they showcase high fashion in these amazing shoots is beautiful. You don’t just appreciate the fashion but also the story they have created to depict an outfit in a light totally outside the box…or bulb in this case. Here are a few of my favourite Vogue shoots:
One of my favourite shoe shops opened its first ever International Flagship store in Ibn Battuta Mall. Call It Spring’s stunning new store was like walking into a dream. The new space blends sleek, contemporary materials and striking textures, with eye-catching colours and neon-lit designs. In this new concept, the product spaces are gender specific: the ladies shop amongst floral detailed walls, mint accents and playful bird statues, while the gents find their picks amid bold concrete-like shelves and glowing red neon accents. Both customers find each other in the seating area located under an impressive white, life-size tree fixture, hence the theme ‘A boy and a girl meet under a tree’.
I can’t think of a better love story, the key to my heart quite possibly hides in a pair of stilettos and I have to say the new collection was stunning. I realised I definitely have a thing for black shoes as you will see from my selection! I suppose I had a neon overload last season and autumns all about those neutral shades. Call It Spring have expanded their collection to include a shoe for everyone, I loved the selection of leather boots in store for this season, In Dubai you only feel the seasons changing when you go shopping (any excuse…) I have shared some of my favourite shoes with you, don’t forget to check out your nearest store! (To my Londoners, there is also a flagship store in Oxford Street)
A great collection should be like a great outfit, it should have clear direction and an element that draws it all together and Lama El-Moatassem did that perfectly. The designer often draws on her Palestinian heritage and this collection beautifully showcased the traditional art of Palestinian cross stitch embroidery and various motifs that symbolize women’s social status and regional origins. Her collection told a story, the faded pastels represented the spring of hope and spirit of what is left of an art-form passed through generations.
Despite infusing a sense of tradition and identity, Toujouri very much appeals to the modern woman. The silk organza and crepe de chine were constructed through fabric bonding enabling some pieces to be reversible and double coloured. I loved the contrast of the yellow and blue motifs on the cream fabric. The way the dresses fell and the movement of the capes was beautiful. The elegance of the midi length dresses and the way the sequins dazzled in the light was stunning. I managed to get a sneaky close up backstage so you can see the detail.
Can’t wait for the next collection!
