Summer Skincare Essentials

The change of season really brings a change in my skin and therefore I switch up my skincare regime for the Summer to aspire to get that perfect Summer Glow and I wanted to share my Summer Skincare Essentials with you!

My skin gets more oilier and also more dehydrated – yes, that is possible! Don’t think that because your skin is oily it has enough water, in fact when your skin is dehydrated, often you will produce MORE oil to compensate for the dryness so essential number 1 is a good moisturiser!

Dr Jart + Water Fuse Moisturiser

Dr Jart + Water Fuse Moisturiser

I am a huge fan of Gel Moisturisers as I have quite oily skin, they are light and absorb well into my skin while letting it breathe. Dr Jart’s Water Fuse line is amazing for quenching the thirst of your skin. Here is a video on how Dr Jart’s Water Fuse line works:

I do love this product but I found Sephora’s Instant Water Moisture Gel to be a great dupe. GLAMGLOW’s Hydrated Water Burst Moisturiser is another good option. The innovative sea blue formula bursts into thirst quenching water droplets upon contact before fully absorbing into the skin for a glow you can see and feelI would not get through the Summer without one of these moisturisers!

Clinique Pep Start

Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream

I am on my 3rd Tube of this hydrating goodness. The skin around your eyes is the most sensitive, its thinner and therefore ages first and shows the first signs of dehydration and aging. A little massage of this product every morning will have your undereyes looking fresh!

Basking and Masking

GLAMGLOW Gravity Mud Mask

I believe in Basking and Masking! If your gonna sunbathe, make sure you get that extra hydration in. I also love a good exfoliating mask before I sunbathe to keep the tan on my face nice and even. I love Sephora’s range of masks, the eye and lip ones are great for packing in that extra hydration where it is most needed. I use these while doing an all over face mask, my favourite this summer is GLAMGLOW’s Gravity Mud which is a Silver Peel Off Mask. It gets rid of all my extra oil while removing all my dead skin cells so the surface of my skin is nice and smooth. I find it very gentle and use it twice a week.

Hand Cream

L'occitane Amande Hand Cream

Keep those hands nice and soft with a super moisturising hand cream or balm. I love  L’occitane’s almond range, I travel with all of it! The Oil is so versatile and the hand balm is super nourishing and smells divine! Sephoras Almond hand balm is also super nourishing for a smaller budger.

Iftar at Weslodge Saloon Dubai

We were lucky enough to preview Weslodge Saloon’s delicious iftar menu and it was worth writing home about! This North American venue has a great iftar menu for the meat-lovers out there!

20180425_194440-01832733735.jpeg

Weslodge Saloon is usually a North America style party destination so I was not expecting a very traditional iftar, therefore when I received a lentil soup with a side of hummus, I was pleasantly surprised! The soup was actually gigantic and though it was delicious, after glancing at the rather hearty menu I stopped myself when I reached a quarter of the way through.

I was saving myself for the ribs, chicken and salad that were yet to come for starters! The honey drizzled chicken is pretty well known and it didn’t disappoint. Super crunchy and salty with a sticky coating of honey, it won me over and the lamb ribs and salad were pretty good too. I was quite happy with them all but again had a small taster of each as mains included steak, fish and more ribs!

20180425_195342-011713597950.jpeg

20180425_202631-011573842772.jpeg

The steak was quite disappointing, undercooked for medium and the lemony sauce just didn’t work for me but lets talk about those melt-in-your-mouth ribs! Now they were what you imagine when you picture a great North American Diner, they could have added a barbecue sauce on the side but they were slow-cooked to perfection and the meat fell off the bone. The fish was nice too, again everything was huge portions and I think it should be for a minimum of 4 people as 3 of us did not even get half way through any course. I hate to see wastage and especially in Ramadan so they should definitely start a fridge initiative for leftovers or just downsize.

I loved that they brought round the hummus and dates first as many places make you wait until they serve starters and this would keep you going till then. With the best yet to come, we were served Weslodge’s most requested double down hazelnut brownie or the scrumptious maple brulee; a with blueberry sorbet coupled with maple tossed blueberries – both were a delicious end to a great meal! I was happy overall and would definitely recommend this to someone looking for an indulgent iftar.

Too Faced Chocolate Gold Palette

20180330_122827-01196872040.jpegSince getting my hands on this Too Faced Chocolate Gold Palette I have been obsessed with it. I love the colour selection and combination of matte and metallic eye shadows! The metallics are super sparkly as they have actually been infused with real gold! Not only that but they smell delicious as they are made with cocoa powder and smell good enough to eat.

I love pairing the metallics with the mattes, I recently took this palette on holiday for two weeks and was able to create a range of day and night looks, I have featured a look I created when attending a wedding above. There are great neutral shades and also a few colours and smoky shades. There are some great transition colours too. My tip would be to spray your brush with a little fixing spray and dab on the metallic for a super shiny finish.

Too faced eyeshadows are highly pigmented and blend beautifully, this is my favourite palette of this year!

The palette is available in Sephora Middle East!

After using the Voxbox

Rose Nudes palette swatches

I received a Vox box from Max Factor, it contained An Eyebrow Shaper a Waterproof Eyeliner, two Eyeshadow Palettes and a Brow Contouring Kit.

Unfortunately the Brow Contouring Kit was damaged when it arrived, I used the brown shades which were still intact and if you give the powder a few seconds to set, it does not rub off easily or smudge and is good to fill in gaps. The brow shaper retractable pencil was my favourite item and I have been using it daily! It has a waxy texture and really allows you to define your brows and the strokes look like real hairs. Since I started using it, many people have asked me if I had my brows micro-bladed, as they are so well defined. This is the best eyebrow product I have ever used! It just goes to show that drugstore products can be better!

The eyeshadow palettes have a lovely range of colours however they are not very pigmented. They blend beautifully and are nice for daytime but for a more dramatic look, you need to spend time to build the shadow.

The Liquid Liner is also one of my favourite products. I already had one and was happy to receive a second as mine has almost finished. The consistency is just right, it is not too watery, nor too thick and has a precise applicator for drawing. The only weird thing is when you want to remove it, it peels off in bits but you get used to it.

I have already added the brow shaper and liquid liner to my makeup bag and highly recommend them!

This hidden gem can be found within the courtyard of the Sharjah Art Foundation Art Space. It has a creative fusion menu of Asian and European flavours.

I loved the setting of this place, the sand coloured traditional walls and beautifully carved wooden doors added an authentic Arabic touch. The name, Fen, can be translated as ‘art’ or ‘the art of …’, and I am sure from looking at the photo’s you will agree that the food lived up to the name as these stunning creations are like works of art on a plate.

For starters we had Vietnamese rolls, Gazpacho and a fish tartare. The Gazpacho was so beautiful to look at, we fussed over it for ages before we actually poured the tomato liquid into the beautiful garnish and drizzled the basil oil from the pipette onto the dish. This was my favourite starter, it looked beautiful and I liked the marriage of the flavours in my mouth. The tangy tomato was sweetened by the basil oil and the garnish added a nice bit of colour and texture. I found the fish too fishy for my tastes as I prefer quite subtle sweet fleshed fish like seabass, this was too pungent and overwhelming for me. The Vietnamese rolls were enjoyable with the peanut sauce but nothing to write home about.

The mains arrived and again they were a visual feast. The jumbo prawns lived up to their name as they were huge! They were succulent and had a nice flavour to them, I felt the lemon butter did not add much and they were nicer on their own. The Scallop risotto was delicious, the risotto was cooked to perfection as were the scallops and the amount of cheese was perfect so as not to overpower the delicate flavour of the scallops.

Now lets talk about the pièce de résistance…the miso sea bass was to die for! It literally melted in your mouth and had a beautiful salty sauce on it which complemented the sweetness of the fish perfectly. It was topped with delicious mushrooms and then garnished with some green leaves. I thought the flavours together were beautiful and we all agreed we would drive from Dubai again for that Sea bass!! The spots of sauce in different colours made the dish beautiful to look at and also added some exciting tangy flavours.

The dessert blew our minds, we were literally like paparazzi shooting non-stop as the waitress set it down on the table and we were cooing over how stunning it was. None of us wanted to eat it as we felt awful to destroy these works of art!

The most gorgeous to look at was the sorbet and ice cream dish which looked like a coral reef. It had these intricate leaves of coloured sugar wedged in the dish in sunset hues and it was just beautiful. It was nice to eat but the vanilla ice-cream was infused with truffle which I didn’t feel fit well together. The matcha, avocado and beetroot desserts were beautiful but just ok to eat…they were super healthy and had no sugar but unfortunately you could tell. The nicest dessert was by far the Ube Leche flan which was a purple yam cake accompanied with a caramel pudding topped with a beautiful solidified bangle of caramel. They really were works of art!

We tried quite an assortment of dishes and although there was room for improvement on some, when they got it right …they got it sooo right! Me and my foodie partner in crime, What Nossy Ate, are in agreement that we will be going back to have that Seabass again and discover more of their menu!

Waka Dubai

Waka Dubai

Waka DubaiWaka Dubai

Waka Dubai
As we entered we were warmly greeted by the staff and our waiter came over shortly to explain the ladies night deal at Waka Dubai which was 3 free drinks and 50% off food! He asked us if he should explain the menu and we asked him some questions which he was well equipped to answer. Most of my friends know I lived in Peru and loved the cuisine so I always get told about any new Peruvian joints in town. I had heard a lot about Waka Dubai before I had the chance to go. All good things so expectations were very high!

We ordered a Chimera Ceviche and the mushroom ceviche to start. They both came presented totally different to any ceviche I had ever had. The seafood ceviche had a tigre de leche foam underneath which the seafood was in. The foam was adorned with flowers and garnishes and was impressive to look at. Had the waiter not explained that the ceviche should be poured into the bowl and eaten with a spoon as it is particularly juicy, I would have probably said that it had a bit too much juice. The taste was divine though, zesty, infused with herbs and onions and the seafood melted in your mouth just as a ceviche should.

The mushroom ceviche had a totally different consistency, it was more dry served with pureed sauces and it was also delicious. The table voted the mushroom ceviche the better dish of the 2 starters although I preferred the traditional flavours in the seafood ceviche and the fact that it was different.

For mains we had Lamb chops, Salmon altitude and Roasted baby chicken. The plates at Waka Dubai were so beautifully presented! The lamb chops were jewelled with flowers and served with spicy pickles which was actually just a bowl full of chillies! The chops were divine and I would get them again but I would request they add something to the chillies to make it more of a relish/pickle as it was too hot to eat it all. The salmon was by far the best looking plate, if you love salmon you can’t go wrong! It was crusted with quinoa and had beautiful ricoto and cauliflour puree to accompany it. The baby chicken came served on a grill and was a pretty simple dish. Nice but I would not order it again, more for the unadventurous diner as it was just chicken and roasties and there are far more interesting flavours on the menu.

We had the cheesecake for dessert which was absolutely delicious and looked so pretty you wouldn’t wanna destroy it…but we did! The ambience was fab, they were playing old-school R&B music and the cool blue tones just gave the place a great vibe. The service really was impecabble, the attentive staff really want you to have the perfect experience and I couldn’t fault it. I want to try so many more dishes and have already booked to go back to Waka Dubai next week.

Glam Glow Glowstarter

Glam Glow Glowstarter

I have been a fan of Glam Glow since its launch in 2011 and started using their incredible face-masks then. Over the last few years Glam Glow has become one of my favourite skincare brands. The products are beautifully packaged and they smell divine!

I have been using Glam Glow’s Glowstarter for 6 weeks now. I have all 3 shades; sun-glow, nude-glow and pearl-glow. I can wear all of them because they blend and leave a luminescence and I like mixing pearl-glow with my foundation. I have been using Glam-Glow daily and I love the effect. Its an illuminating moisturiser so I have replaced my daily moisturiser with it and it was great on holiday as it just leaves your skin glowing and I felt like it set my tan on fire, it just enhanced it perfectly that I could go bare-faced on good skin days. It doesn’t really give coverage so you would wear your foundation with it or mix it into your foundation.

It contains hyaluronic acid, plus vitamins and green tea for energized and moisturized skin. Added illuminating pearl particles help make you look instantly more radiant, blurring and reflecting light, so that all lighting is goodlighting. I love mixing it with my foundation as it gives you that flawless look.

Skin-moisture balance is restored by a combination of emollients including jojoba oil, shea butter and ceramides. A special skin-conditioning lipid complex is designed to help infuse skin with optimal hydration for a luminous finish. I do love the moisturiser however I stopped using it when I had a break out for a few days as the last thing you want is to add dimension to your pimples. This product definitely has a better effect on good skin, its also probably not ideal for very oily skin. I have combination skin and thought it was ideal and it would also be great for dry skin.

I also got the plumprageous lip plumper treatments which are insane! When I wore it my friends asked me if I had lip fillers so its obviously noticeable! It does sting after about 30 seconds for a good 5 minutes or so but it def gives you those bee stung lips and I like the natural colours too. Of course you can put a lipstick underneath it or even on top after your lips are plumped.

I love Glam-Glow and would highly-recommend these products!

Black Up Makeup

No Transfer Matte Liquid Lipcolor No. 1 AED 105I finally got my hands on some Black-Up Makeup while I was in London and had a bit of a haul! I am so excited to announce that it will be sitting shelves in the UAE at Sephora on the 1st of June! The brand is catered to darker skin tones but has product lines for everyone.

I am obsessed with the No Transfer Matte Liquid Lip Color. I have to see these are the first matte lip cremes that I have been wearing all the time! Usually I am a gloss girl and I hate the way matte lipsticks make my lips feel dry and almost masked by this suffocating layer but I have to say Black up’s is moisturising and I love it!! My favourite shade is of course a nude and its 34 which is the perfect nude for me actually. The range is elegant and comfortable. The formula contains ultra-pigments liquid that gives lips a matte, opaque finish in just one application. This long-lasting, rapid-dry formula guarantees that your lip color lasts and lasts. Its gel texture ensures a smooth application and a soft, creamy feel.

Concealer Palette No. 1_AED 135I also love the concealer palette which has four shades including one to contour and one to highlight. I have to say my love for the brand is definitely fuelled by the shades, most brands were not formulated for darker skin-tones it was something they later developed but I feel like a huge chunk of Black-Outs products suit me which is really exciting! Most brands I can only wear a fraction of the products (excluding eyes) so I was really excited to find palettes where I can use pretty much everything.
Contouring Stick No. 2_AED 155The contouring stick is amazing, it has two sides and two shades, really convenient for travel as is the concealer palette! I haven’t tried any of the powder products yet and will definitely be visiting Sephora when they launch next week!
