Sculpt and Pop Makeover

DSC_0533DSC_0537

Katrin has amazing blue eyes and I wanted to make them really stand out or “pop” as we call it in the make-up world. She has a beautiful smile and I wanted to sculpt her cheeks so I did a soft contour as her features are already pretty defined. Its important to always recognize features and face shapes and do what works. A strong contour would make her face look very harsh so I blended a medium brown into the hollows of her cheeks which really drew our her dimples and above that put a peachy blush and highlight to soften it. I slightly contoured her nose and added a highlight down the centre.

Brown eye-shadow really makes blue eyes stand out so I played with bronze tones on her eyes and lined with a brown liner. Since I wanted her eyes to be the focal point of this look I finished with a nude gloss on her lips.

MAC Red Red Red Collection

MAC’s Red Red Red collection couldn’t have launched at a more perfect time for me. Last night I was watching a documentary on Geisha’s and watching them do their make-up made me want to transform somebody’s face into a Geisha (Any Volunteers?). I learned that they painted their faces white because in the olden days when their was no light their faces would glow in the candle light and show all their best features.

They have a gorgeous set of red shades in this collection and the peachy blushes are the perfect accompaniment!

Ruth’s Summery Look

Ruth explained that she normally uses a darker palette on her eyes, I could understand why as that would really bring out her gorgeous green eyes. Darker shades are great for evenings but I wanted to do something different, since we were going to a pool party/BBQ I thought it would be nice to do a bronzed look and then add some colour to her usual eye palette. I used a Sleek Palette and blended copper with turquoise on her eyelid and then took a brown eye-shadow up to her brow bone. When you have smaller eye-lids you can wear your eye-shadow really high, it gives you the illusion of bigger eyes. I have bigger eye-lids so if I did that I would end up looking like a drag queen. I only ever wear high eye-shadow for costume parties or if I need an OTT look. Its really important to recognize your features and work to enhance them, I’ve seen people try to copy a beautiful make-up look and it just looks terrible because they didn’t consider how to adapt things to suit there features.

I highlighted under Ruth’s brow and used an eyebrow pencil to add more definition, then I finished with a metallic turquoise liner under the eyes and two coats of Benefit Bad Gal mascara. I added a MAC bronzer and a little Inglot coral blush and highlighted on her cheek-bones and nose. I finished with a Lancome coral lip-gloss, I thought it was perfect for the summery look I was going for and it really suited her.

M.A.C Tropical Taboo Colour Collection

Zizzle just went to check out M•A•C’s new exotic make-up collection. It captures the passion of samba in a shimmering colour collection pulsating with sensuality. The colours are perfect for summer pairing bright shades with mysterious midnight hues. It’s a latin carnival inspired line of products begging women to give in to the heat, beat and exotic glamour of shades that define desire.

Summer Lips

I generally always have quite muted colours on my lips, nudes and natural peaches, but in summer
I think vibrant lips really complete that bronzed holiday look. Bronzed complexions look great even with nude lips but I just think hot pinks and corals are pretty for the summer.

Today I went really bright!! I used an Annabelle fuchsia lipliner, I coloured in the whole lip as liners are a great base to keep lipstick on longer. Because liners are quite dry they stain the lip better and then the lipstick you apply on top bonds to the liner keeping that on too! (Givenchy lip liners are my favourite, they’re nice and creamy and stay on all day. However, despite me having every shade, they don’t have a fuchsia like Annabelle’s) I applied The Body Shop’s shade 69 on top of the liner and then just dotted on some M.A.C Cremesheen glass in Galaxy Rose and rubbed my lips together. Gloss adds another dimension giving your lips more fullness and leaves them looking hydrated.

In Winter I wear more gloss but in Summer I find it quite sticky, you don’t want too much shine so I just dot a little on.
